The inaugural Sportaccord World Combat Games will be held from 28 August to 4 September 2010 in Beijing, China.  This event features both Olympic and non-Olympic martial arts.  Effectively it is the Martial Arts Olympics involving the following 13 sports: Aikido, Boxing, Judo, Jui-jitsu, Karate, Kendo, Kick Boxing, Muay Thai, Sambo, Sumo, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Wushu.

The Combat Games website is http://www.beijing2010.org/

Three New Zealand athletes qualified to participate in Karate at the Combat Games by virtue of being current Oceania Champions - Letitia Carr (-61kg), Tamara Glyn (-68kg) Chris Bennett (+80kg).  Tamara was unavailable due to work and study commitments.  Letitia and Chris have both confirmed their availability to compete at this prestigious event.  Given the success of New Zealand athletes in WKF international competition last year, Karate New Zealand is confident that our elite athletes will challenge strongly for medals.
